Clean and Low-Tox

We chose a colour company based on having the lowest percentage of chemicals that you need to have to colour hair and while delivering great results.  Our styling ranges are sustainably sourced, cruelty free, and ethical. Andrea regularly researches and tests clean products that come to market.

Keune – our colour range

Keune is a family owned and run business with a big heart.  Their ethos is to take care of the planet and people.  They have many programs in place from being completely CO2 neutral to educating people in the slums of Brazil to become Hairdressers.

We believe in using Keune colours, as their philosophies match ours. Our research shows they are one of the cleanest colours on the market, meaning they have a lower chemical content of the harsh chemicals needed to colour hair.  This is what we research when looking for a low-tox colour.

Keune colours have a heavenly shine and silky touch.  The permanent colour has cocamide formulation using pearlescents coconut oil protecting hair and scalp.  Their semi colour is vegan and gluten free. Cocamide is infused with sea silk, a powerful extract from red algae.  It has a soothing complex with Boswellia Serrata Gum protecting and calming the scalp.

We require professional hair colour that will lighten and add depth and achieve great consistent results, this unfortunately still requires chemical content to deliver these results. A lot of colour companies are PPD free and Ammonia free, this is true however there needs to be replacement ingredients in order to deliver results of professional hair colour. If a professional hair colour is Ammonia free then it will have replacement ingredients of either Ethanolamine or its cousins MEA or DEA.  This is the same if a colouring range is PPD free, then it will have a replacement of PTD.  Our colour range of Keune is PPD free, so it has a PTD and in the permanent colour it has Ammonia.  However, according to our research the use of these chemicals is at a very low percentage compared to other colour ranges. If this interests you then it is good to know what replacement ingredients are being used and what percentage is being added.
